Spinal Cord Injury often results in paralysis and clearly has a profound effect on individuals and their families. Often affecting young, active people, you know adjustment to paralysis can be difficult. Paralysis obviously restricts exercise - and we all know that exercise is vital for everyone. People who have had a spinal cord injury need more exercise - but there are real physical barriers to getting enough. The result is increased risk of cardiovascular problems, loss of bone density, risk of pressure sores and many constraints on quality of life.
What if we could allow even paralysed muscles to work using technology? This would allow regular, healthy exercise and even the challenge of sport to be available to many more people who wish to live long, healthier lives following a Spinal Cord Injury.
The Technology Exists - itʼs improving rapidly - we call it FES Cycling
