New things you can do with a RehaStim

I was told at a recent meeting, "Ah yes, you offer that cheaper FES system don't you?"

It didn't take me long to realize that it was important to write and give everyone a wider grasp of our products.   Whilst I am happy to confirm that our FES Cycling systems are generally seen as less expensive than the competition, there is actually quite a bit more to say about them.  You might like the sound of what I have to say.

Whether offered to an individual client or used as a part of therapy, the modular , "bolt-on" design in our RehaMove FES systems gives unmatched flexibility, adjustability and value for money.  We see this as a good thing.

Here are few things we would like you to know - whether you are a Therapist or a potential FES Cycling client

For the therapist
Did you know that RehaStim, the 8-channel stimulator at the heart of our RehaMove FES cycling system, doesn't need to be just attached to an ergometer?  You could use the system quite happily attached to your MOTOmed for FES Cycling in the morning and then use the RehaStim FES unit for other applications in the afternoon.

Powerful software we call Sequence Mode can live alongside the cycling software and allow all 8 channels (or as few as 1 channel) to be easily programmed to activate a series of muscles in a repetitive sequence.  You programme and control the stimulation through a simple touch-screen interface.  By precisely controlling which muscles are active, for how long and in what order some interesting possibilities emerge.

You can imagine, using the system to stimulate a number of muscle groups during walking rehabilitation.  Or perhaps to initiating a sit-to-stand maneuver.   Or just selecting 8 muscle groups and exercising them whilst sitting or standing.  We have therapists who use Sequence Mode as a very flexible therapy tool; knowing that they can reconnect the RehaStim to the MOTOmed in seconds when FES Cycling is on the menu.   There is no question that this makes a RehaMove a very powerful tool as it combines a number of applications in one unit.

For the client at home -
Our home clients have different needs but we aim to serve them well.  When clients have little choice it is hard for them to make reasoned decisions about value for money.  We know that some of our clients chose to purchase our RehaMove system because it was less expensive.   At the same time, some people probably didnÙt choose our system because, as it was less expensive, they just assumed that it couldnÙt be as good.  ItÙs pretty normal human behaviour.

Here are some discoveries our clients have made.

The modular structure not only allows the price to be lower, it allows easy upgrades in functionality and much more flexibility.  This is not always the case with these types of systems.  Once you have purchased, you may have to sit back and watch new systems come out with functions that you cant grasp unless you go for a completely new model.  Sound familiar?

Starting with a legs only, RehaMove system, the client has a powerful, flexible, 8 channel FES system.   If they wish to upgrade they can right now

• add arm cranking, we can upgrade the system cost effectively and quickly.  Hardware and software changes enable up to eight channels to be deployed in active arm cranking or leg cycling.
• add a Smart Card data recording system that logs all training data to a compact card for display and analysis on computer.  We have some clients who share a system and use their own Smart Cards to monitor their individual progress.
• upload new software in the RehaStim to graduate to our RehaBike for outdoor tricycle action.

And you know what, if something ever goes wrong, the modular structure means we can easily execute a repair and the whole machine doesn't need to be returned to base.
